BALANCED LIFE

The Mindfulness of Cannabis

Cannabis for wellness has been used for five thousand years by humanity and is considered among the most important plants in ancient medicine. Recognized for its powerful relationship with humans, cannabis was used as a daily ritual combined with meditation and yoga. Modern medicine has now recognized the tremendous changes brought about in the human body through meditation and Yoga. Cannabis is not far behind. With 50+ years of research and the recent discovery of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), science and medicine are recognizing the changing landscape of health and wellness in the 21st Century.

The discovery of the ECS is an incredibly powerful and impactful medical development moving into the 21st century. The system’s main purpose is balance, or homeostasis, of the entire human body and the systems contained within. Homeostasis is the tendency of a system to maintain internal stability.

Up until the 1990’s we knew nothing of endocannabinoid system or its relationship to the cannabis plant. Their relationship has been simply described as a lock and key relationship because of its ease and natural connection to each other. The human body naturally produces two endocannabinoids, 2-AG and anandamide. These chemicals are produced locally on demand and consumed nearly instantly, helping your body to maintain balance. The phytocannabinoids in cannabis such as THC and CBD activate the same binding sites, providing the same balancing benefits.

Many auto-immune diseases are caused by imbalance and missed communication between the central systems of the body, including the endocannabinoid system. Phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant, from hemp and marijuana, act as electrical messengers traveling throughout the body to inform cells and receptors of balance and imbalance.
